ALBEMARLE, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a teenager Wednesday evening near South Bell Avenue and Inger Street.

The Albemarle Police Department reported that officers responded to a shots-fired call at approximately 6:08 p.m. on January 14. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Emergency medical assistance was administered on scene, but the victim was pronounced dead.

Investigators have identified a suspect and are actively pursuing leads related to the incident. Police say preliminary information indicates the individuals involved were known to one another and that the shooting was not random.

Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to residents in the area. Officers remain on site as the investigation continues.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The shooting has left the local community shaken. Residents reported a heavy police presence for several hours while officers processed the scene and collected evidence. Detectives are continuing interviews with witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
